Christmas hangover affects ‘Bridge
Not the start to 2018 we wanted but a strong finish to the game
A shaky start to 2018 against a well drilled Uckfield team.
The excesses of Christmas obviously still evident as ‘Bridge took the field with 8 replacements against a bare Uckfield 15. The extra numbers were not decisive however as Uckfield ran in 8 unanswered tries.
The old enemies of poor tackling and line speed came back to haunt us however there were some glimmers of good rugby during the game.
Against a dominant and technically proficient scrum, our pack struggled to protect Harry, who did sterling work despite being under pressure for much of the game.
Communication was poor throughout the game and it was only in the last 10 minutes our quality shone through. It was a shame that we didn’t play that way earlier as it would have been a far closer game.
Our replacements made the most of their opportunity with Callum BROWN being the standout player being involved in multiple rucks and causing the Uckfield defence serious problems.
Alex Parsons was the hard hitter we have come to expect through the game and Sam Pulley made some awesome try saving hits on the wing.
The game was summed up well by Captain Tom MOONEY but his words cannot be repeated here!
A lesson in discipline and technique today, so we move on to Worthing next week - an equally tough test.
