Bromley too strong for a lacklustre ‘Bridge
No shows and last minute drop outs affected the team but ultimately Bromley were too strong
A disappointing game from ‘Bridge who were more beige than black and gold today.
Frustratingly a number of last minute drop outs coupled with enforced absence through injuries meant a below strength team took the field against a well drilled Bromley who had players to spare.
A hastily rearranged pack held up pretty well with Callum E having to play loosehead against a monster of a Bromley tighthead.
Playing uphill and into the sun in the first period ‘Bridge contrived to let Bromley around the wings by being too narrow and missing all too many tackles.
With the score at 36-0 at the break and a stern talking to from the coaches the boys came out with more fire in their bellies and played much better rugby.
Some quick thinking and intelligent play at penalty time saw first Alex P and the Arlo cross with support from the forwards to score the 2 tries for ‘Bridge. Unfortunately, the angle and distance were too much for Tom H to make the conversions.
However well we played in the second period however we did still butcher 2 try scoring opportunities by not trusting our passes and not supporting our team mates.
A few knocks in the game made more enforced changes with Bobby going off after receiving a knock to the back in a ruck meaning Jordan had to come back on as flanker having played wing in the first half!
Luckily Callum E’s sore neck received in a ruck madd him play better and we did not require a replacement prop.
In a fairly average performance from the team it was hard to pick out particular players although Sam’s improvement game on game continued with 3 big hits and some good stepping work on the rare occasions he did get the ball.
Man of the match however had to go to Harry, who despite the difficulties tried to be inventive and showed a great deal of maturity in trying to manage the game from 9.
As ever, we move on and work on those areas identified in the game so everyone needs to make it to training on Tuesday and Sunday before our next league game, two weeks today.
Learn from today boys and come back stronger next time.
