Great performance from ’Bridge at home to Vigo
Big hits, tries and brilliant defence
We were looking to build on our last performance against Old Cats and take the momentum forward into this Vigo match, looking for the victory in a manner that we could be proud of and I think we can say that we did that.
Not taking anything away from a massively improved Vigo Team who kept going right to the end and had us on the back foot more than we would have liked.
With the biggest crowd we have seen at the Rec for some time the boys thought carefully about the game and made good decisions when required.
A revised pack through the enforced absence of our usual back row saw Reece and Callum B at flank and Braiden at 8, all of whom showed what they were made of and certainly put their hand up for selection in those positions in the future.
Vigo certainly had a game plan to power their way up the field with their forwards but ‘bridge were equal to the challenge and utilised the backs to great advantage although 2 of Callum B’s 3 tries came whilst he was playing at flanker. You can’t expect wingers to forget how to exploit the edges!
Harry found his range with the boot and was 4 from 6 off the tee (better than the 1st XV yesterday!)
Tries from Leon, Braiden and Will (with a lovely show and go and with great support from Callum E and Jack outside ending up looking like spare parts!) made the score 38-0 at the end.
There were some bruising hits from both sides and the reaction from the crowd was tangible with Jacob’s hits bringing some wincing from the support of both sides and earning him a deserved man of the match.
It was a well supported game with most of the first XV down to support, reciprocating the support given to them by the boys in previous Home matches. Thanks to the lads for coming down to support after their away game yesterday.
With a 2 week lay off before our next league match we want to work on the little details that will make us a force to be reckoned with in the future. With performances like today the future of the club is assured and we will be challenging for top honours in years to come.
The boys should be proud of themselves for their performance but even more so for their self analysis after the match and questioning of what to do better. It shows a degree of maturity and self belief which should stand us in good stead going forward.
Well done boys your coaches are proud of you for your performance and your mindset!
