Uckfield 35 - 10 Edenbridge
Tough day out for the bridge but an inspiring start
We knew this would be a tough match and the boys were strong out of the blocks. Playing the game in Uckfield's half they brought pressure, and shipped the ball well. Within the first 10 minutes we'd scored two tries, one from Isaac and one from James and had looked dominant. However Uckfield were not going to rollover and began to find their stride. The Boys tackled well with some stout goal line defense but their shape was starting to go and Uckfield kept coming, with us reaching half time 3-2 down.
The first part of the second half saw the bridge under a lot of pressure - some exerted by Uckfield, some inflicted upon ourselves. Uckfield ran in a couple more tries and whilst the boys could have easily folded completely they stuck with it and at times produced some good rugby, getting the ball through the hands and coming so, so close to adding further tries. Unfortunately some lapse tackling meant that Uckfield scored a couple of breakaway tries which some what distorted the scoreline - Uckfield deserved to win but it had been a well contested match with some great rugby from both sides. Man of the Match was James for some great line speed in defense, tackling from first minute till last and some good running.
Positives - great resolve to come back into the game in the second half when we'd been under the cosh, good distribution when we did get the ball and looked dangerous when we got it out wide.
To work on - tackling can't be up and down - needs to be solid : Must compete more at the breakdown : Calm heads, we put ourselves under pressure at times with panicked decisions and passing.
