Hard Defeat but against a strong Team

Our Heads stayed up and dug in hard right to the end

Although having beaten East Grinstead when we played them at the Rec earlier in our league campaign , it was evident that they were going to get stronger . Our squad arrived keen and focused and after a good warm up were prepared for a must win game if we were to climb into a higher “pool” next season .
After 2 minutes disaster struck as our own “White Shark” Finley Brogan had to be taken to hospital with a suspected fractured and dislocated wrist ( we all wish him well and a speedy recovery) .This set the scene for the first half , although we dug deep we were over run by a well drilled and ruthless Grinstead team going in losing 6 tries to 1 . We had not played particularly badly and after a sharp half time talk , the boys played with real heart , determination and spirit losing 4-3 in the second half on the try count but playing a lot of the time with 12 and occasionally 11 boys as injuries struck.
This was one of those matches where losing 10-4 was not a disgrace . East Grinstead were a good side and the best side we have played this season (apart from TJ s) . Even though heads went down at times the boys worked hard as a collective team and we as coaches can’t ask for anything more than that . A special mention to Harry who played his best game for a long time , guiding the side through his own injury with real leadership and maturity .
