Impressive captain Roberts wallops the Wells
By Alan Erskine
We have been a little lazy on the match report front of late. Mainly due to the woeful performances and results of recent weeks. This week was slightly different though!
Another difficult week of availability, due to a multitude of injuries meant that we played at home with a flat 15 (plus a hobbling C Mitchell). That’s including Max Moe who was confirmed at 1pm for his 1st team debut.
A strong start from the visitors shocked the home team as they took the lead and looked really good. The misery of the home team continued as the referee showed Bobby Weaver a red card in the 20th minute.
This is when the boys in gold started to play. Amazing carries, offloads and huge hits got the home team back into the game. 1st half tries for Spike Smith,Jack Plunkett, and a maiden try for the ever impressive Dan Giffin. 2 well struck penalties and all of the conversions from Alfie Bennett made for a half time score of 25-5.
Half time brought a different team talk to what we’ve heard recently. No rollockings or bad blood. Just a lot of praise, a few pats on the back and a sprinkling of laughter.
2nd half underway, Bridge started as they ended the 1st 40. Pushing the T Wells defence to the limit and breaking through with more great teamwork. A brace of tries for Spike Smith completed, awesome as ever. 2 soft tries for the boys from poshtown were the only blemishes.
Another try a piece for Jack Plunkett and Dan Giffin, and another penalty and 3 conversions saw a close to the match. 14 man Edenbridge coming out on top, 49-17.
100% from the boot of the foetus (Alfie Bennett) was a joy to watch. The performances from the back line earned them all a post match beer, Keep up though boys! Beaten by a cripple in the 9 man drink off.
Good luck to Dan Seddon who is getting his ear drained at the hospital. You were also impeccable.
Man of the match was given to the powerful and skilled Dan Giffin though. 2 tries, countless line breaks and faultless in the set piece.
Dick of the day to the massively improved Alasdair Radley/Kite for showering in a pair of jeans. Amazing scenes!!!
VP lunch next week against Folkestone. Let’s get a run of wins going and give them a pasting. Well done boys!!!
