The Bridge return to Bognor, on a bright sunny day for our 2013 tour game.
Wow! The Bridge look outstanding in there Pink strip.
It was a slow warm up due to a very enjoyable Saturday, but in our Stade Francais strip the team started to work off the excesses from the night before.
The Bridge was starting with 20 players a first for this season and a pleasure for Coach John.
Edenbridge welcomed back pass legends such as Jacob, James Lovelock, and James Calderwood and from the 16’s Johnnie, Jerome and Will.
Bognor chose to kick off, not sure if it was the forward roll by the whole of the Bognor team or just the night before, but Bridge let the ball bounce then roll in to touch, we then had to defend some good rugby by Bognor for the next 10 minutes this was not the relaxed start that the team were looking for.
This pressure finally told with fast heads and hands, Bognor run in 2 tries to take the score to 12-0, Bridge were behind, a familiar story this season but that’s when they can play their best rugby.
Harvey, Lewis and Burney were driving the team on with some good sustained pressure in there 22, a well worked lineout ball from Tom gave good ball to skinner who offloaded on the line to Harvey who went over for the Try, with Sam Sharp adding the 2 points Bridge were back in the game.
In the 2nd half Bridge went on the hunt for the win, the Edenbridge Pack were immense with the Bognor scrum going backwards every time, but with the ref taking so long to reset the overrun scrum time was running out.
Bognor then scored a break away try with 15 minutes to go, it was tough ask for Bridge to come back from here.
The whole team upped their game, this led to good territorial advantage, but the defence from Bognor was solid, but it was Jacob who hacked the ball has it popped out from a ruck, he then gave chase and with good hands picked up and crossed the line.
With 10 minutes to go the score stood at 17-12, Bridge through everything at Bognor but it was too late. The Ref blew his Whistle to close this cracking game.
I could go through and mention outstanding work by individuals but this was a real team effort so well done to the pack, Lewis, Max, Tom, Calders, Darnell, JD Jake, Skin, Lovelock and the Burnett brothers and the backs, Harvey the Hat, Sammy, Pred, Jacob, Cheners, Jerome, the boxers Connor and Alex, Bell and Sam.
Well done for giving 100%
