Attraction for Edenbridge RFC of the Eden Valley School site

• It provides a more visible presence of rugby in the community compared to the Recreation Ground.

• It offers the prospect, if not of ownership, then long leasehold. This opens up the prospect of a Rugby Football Union £100,000 no interest loan and a smaller grant. An RFU representative has visited the site, seen the Science Block and our plans and expressed the view that our application to the RFU would be successful.
• Security of tenure is lacking at the Recreation Ground. For ERFC this rules out a RFU loan. Additionally, many charities will not grant or loan to organisations that do not have security of tenure. The Recreation Ground offers an insecure future.
• There exists the prospect of saving a suitable existing school building from demolition and recycling it as a superb clubhouse.
• There is space for three senior pitches plus Mini Rugby training space.
• On the area occupied by the demolished school buildings, space for off-street parking – around 100 cars.
• The continuing and detestable task of clearing dog excrement from the Recreation Ground before we play would no longer be necessary.
• ERFC would be able to run its own show without the multiplicity of interests inherent at the Recreation Ground.
